Maintaining and Cleaning Teak

Post by ARPE » Tue Feb 21, 2017 9:48 pm

My former boat has Flexiteak and I am very pleased with it. I am now moving to the real thing, my new boat has teak on the swim platform and aft lounge area. While waiting for the new boat, I started reading how many of you maintain teak.

Attached here is how, I believe, Bavaria recommends the users to maintain boat teak flooring.

Please share with us your results and how you maintain a teak floor you might have in your boat.

I would have assumed teak oil to refresh the teak. I guess not.

I have a friend that was using teak oil regularly. The black joint started to degrade leaving black marks on the teak. I also noticed that the teak on his boat swim platform became quite slippery when wet.

He stopped the practice, his teak and joints are looking good (normal) now.
