R40 Remote Control

Post by rpontual » Mon Mar 25, 2019 11:17 pm

I added a Garmin GRID 20 remote control to improve:

1) Have 4 one touch buttons to change both screens to preconfigured situations,
2) Have a rotating knob to zoom in/out on the maps
3) Be able to change stuff on the screens while rested on the seat
4) ...have fun :D

(at the moment it is working on batteries, I still need to figure out how to pull a cable from this location to the helm-station or engine room and connect to the NMEA network.)

Great, since I have been wiring all across the R40 I am very familiar with the wiring ducts. There is a side duct, if you remove the seating clothing you can open a wooden lid (under the seating). From there you can see a wiring duct which leads to the room behind the wardrobe on the starboard side in the master cabin (remove the white cover). From this point you can access the helm by carefully going through the left side of the wardrobe (standing in front of it). There you have plenty of NMEA access.
