Loose Stanchions

The previous owners forum, that seems to have been taken down, had a number of owners that have developed solutions and dealt with loose and leaking stanchions on their boats. Does anyone here have any fixes they have developed?

Generally they are attached with bolts and held by nuts underneath. If they are loose and you have access to the nuts, I suggest removing them first, cleaning the area, adding a sealant beneath the stanchion and tightening it back in place. You could use 3M 4000 as the sealant if you want to keep the option to remove the stanchion in the future, otherwise 3M 5200 (which will be a permanent hard to remove solution).

In order to ensure water tight, apply the sealant to the holes and any screws. Screw holes are sources of water leak that are frequently ignored, I use sealant on every screw installed in the exterior of the boat.
