replacing window seals

Hi,
My window seals are leaking. I went to replace one and it was a major PITA. I asked Bavaria for the part number I needed and they refused to give it to me, only telling me the size. So I ordered 2 from them, got the Lewmar part, then ordered the rest direct
.
So, I have all the seals I need, but I am having a heck of a time replacing them... Broke one trying to stretch it. Another did a great dry fit, but lewmar said to add the sealant so I took it back out, put in sealant, and of course couldn't get it to stay.
Does anyone have any advise for getting these things in and to not leak?
